I travelled by high speed train from Madrid to Algerciras for a three night stay in a small hotel. Algerciras is a small port town in south Spain on the Mediterranean Sea with ferries to North Africa. The town was my base for visiting around, the first was to Gibraltar. Took a local bus to La Linea , here walked through the border check to Gibraltar. The area of Gibraltar is only 2.6 sq miles, so the airport runway takes up space and crosses the road in. When a plane is due the road is closed.----Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory at the southern tip of the Iberian Penninsula. The Territory has been British since 1713 AD.--- The Rock of Gibraltar dominates ( 1398 ft ) with the population of over 30,000 below. The Mediterranean divides Gib, from Morocco----Gibraltar is known as Mons Calpe in Phoenician orgin.----Its most famous residence is the Barbary Macaque Apes who climb free on the Rock..--- A monkey used my friends shoulder has a spring board to get along the wall. -----The caves are a great place to visit and the tunnels that were in use in WW2. I took a taxi to near the top , other ways are possible.---At the end of the pedestrianised main street is the ex Convent built 1581, now the official residence of the Govenor of Gibraltar. ====The town is Britain in the Sun, with English style shops and pubs,. The currency is the Gibraltar Pound along with the British Pound. Traffic drives on the right.--- Cruise ships visit regularly. ---------------------------------------I took a ferry across the Straits of Gibraltar ( 14 km ) from Algerciras for a day trip to Ceuta on North Africa, bordering Morocco. Ceuta is a territory of Spain is an autonomuus city on North coast of Africa. and the place looks like Spain. The population is 82,000. Spanish is the offical language.-----------The ferry ride took just over an hour, there are no custom checks except when they are looking for illegals and smuggelers. The ticket office is near the docks in Algerciras.
